In its latest report on Turkey, the European Commission praises the country for strengthening surveillance and protection of its eastern borders as part of its migration policy. Experts say that this is losing the Union credit, even the goodwill of the Turkish opposition. This is bad news for the bloc because of the new migrants from Afghanistan who are arriving in Turkey.

Feminist foreign policy is not just about parity of representation of women in diplomacy. It ensures that no country's foreign policy activities are undertaken without an assessment of the impact on women. Although the Slovak diplomatic department is also starting to have a coordinator for the status of women, diversity and inclusion from today, Slovakia has some catching up to do in this area.

There is nowhere to retreat on the issue of gender-based violence, experts Oľga Pietruchová and Zuzana Očenášová agreed. The European Commission will not hold back in the first draft of its own version of the Istanbul Convention, they said, and Slovak legislation needs changes.

By the end of the year, the European Commission will present its own legislation to protect women from violence. There are three scenarios on the table. Virtually nothing may change, but there may also be harmonisation of the criminal codes of the Member States.
